CLOSED TO NEW CLIENTS

AS OF 12/1/20 - SORRY!

As a freelance editor, I can think of nothing more rewarding than seeing the growth from the start of a revision to the final polished manuscript, and I’m so excited to share that experience and journey with you.

In the course of publishing my own Contemporary/Sports Romances, I’ve had my share of revisions and edit letters from critique partners to industry professionals. I’ve successfully participated in contests like PitchSlam, PitMad, PitchMas, PitchWars, Sun vs. Snow, WritePit, Write Club, WriteSlam, QueryKombat, as well as others. I’ve worked with other authors in all stages of the publishing process,  many whom have gone on to finalize in contests, sign with their dream agents, and publish their books.

I am formerly represented by Shira Hoffman of McIntosh & Otis, Inc, currently represented by Kelly Peterson of Rees Literary AgencyI have been a PitchWars mentor twice, for the class of 2018 + 2019, both my mentees signing with agents. I am also a traditionally published author, my Moto Grand Prix series coming from Sourcebooks Casablanca July 2020.

Currently, I'm only taking fiction manuscripts–no non-fiction or self-help, and no Middle Grade or Picture Books, poetry, screenplays, or memoirs. I specialize in Adult fiction, but will also take YA, and NA, ranging in (sub) genres from sports romance, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, romantic comedies, and women’s fiction. I love diverse stories and diverse characters, and if you’re not sure if your manuscript is the right fit for me, please feel free to ask!

My goal is really all pure self-interest: I want to read your amazing books! And I want to watch them grow and transform from something incredible, to something awe-worthy. I don’t guarantee that I have all the answers to what your manuscript needs, or how to fix it. But I do guarantee that I will give it the love, respect, and devotion that I provide my own words, and at a price that keeps your dreams an affordable reality.

Goldnox Editing

Query: $25

Whether you’re cold querying, or sending a query in a package from a social media request, your manuscript’s first impression is unmistakably important.

Through two editing and developmental passes, we’ll look at structure, voice, hook, stakes, grammar, and professionalism, to make sure both you and your book are putting your best foot forward.

If you’re not familiar with queries, feel free to check my blog post Ready to Query? Don’t Forget Your Lipstick for tips and links to other helpful “How to Write a Query” articles.

Turnaround time: 1 week

Synopsis: $35

It’s been said that a synopsis can tell you everything you need to know about a manuscript without ever having to read it, and even as someone who metaphors away for 100,000 words at a time, I have to agree.

Through two editing and developmental passes, we will make sure you are presenting your manuscript with all the elaborate beauty you’ve written, but in a tight, enticing manner, and while leaving nothing out. We’ll look for structure, balance, voice, pacing, grammar, stakes, and originality.

If you’re unfamiliar with synopsis, or how they differ from queries, I recommend this article by Shira Hoffman of McIntosh & Otis, Inc.

Manuscript Assessment: $275-$375

Much like an exchange with a thorough pre-reader, in this service, I will read the full manuscript and then provide you with an edit letter covering my reactions, thoughts, and suggestions regarding character arcs, plot, pacing, structure, voice, and marketability.

Where I think your strengths lie, where I think you have room to grow, how I think you can get there and any ideas I hope may be of help to you.

If I notice any recurring mistakes grammatically, I will mention those in my edit letter as things to look for, but please note: I will not be leaving line edits, or reaction comments in the manuscript itself.

I love doing Manuscript Assessments—Apart from just the opportunity to sink my teeth into your whole manuscript, I can turn them around fast, and I know when all you need is one last pre-reader to double check that everything is working, time is of the essence.

$275-Manuscript of up to 55,000 words

Turnaround time: 2 weeks

$325-Manuscript of up to 75,000 words

Turnaround time: 2 -3 weeks

$375-Manuscript of up to 100,000 words

Turnaround time: 4 weeks

If your manuscript falls outside these ranges, or is close to the cutoff point between ranges, let me know and we can discuss the price most appropriate to your manuscript length.

Developmental Edit: $0.012 per word

This is the full enchilada.

All my thoughts and thinks about your characters, plot, pacing, voice, dialogue, overall storyline, marketability, strengths, weaknesses, how much I want to rip your MC's shirt off and slather him with sparkly nail polish, everything. Line by line, word by word, in comments throughout the whole manuscript, plus an overall edit letter!

This package is intense, a lot of fun, and a lot of work. Along with all developmental and reaction comments, I will flag grammatical errors and typos, and make formatting suggestions if needed. However, if I find a repeated grammatical/punctuation error, I will do my best to explain the rule and how to look for it, then cease to flag it after the first 50 pages. This way, I can spend my time more effectively making comments regarding your character’s internal arc pacing and how sexy that car wash scene was.

I like to leave a lot of comments. I like to have a lot of fun. And I love getting to give your book my all.

Hybrid Option

Hybrid Option: Starting at $350

Based on MS length

So you just ran the numbers for a full developmental edit and had a heart attack, didn’t you? Yeah, I know. So that’s why this is here:

In this service, you get a Reader Assessment on the full manuscript, plus a developmental edit of the first 50 pages. You’re still getting feedback on overall characters, arcs, pacing, plot, and more in the final letter, but also with line by line help on the first fifty pages so you’ll have examples in the comments about word choice, grammar issues, voice disconnects, everything!

This is great for when you need a little of everything, and at the lowest possible price.

Turnaround time: 3-4 weeks

Budget Option: $50

I know. You read “Lowest possible price” above and then laughed because it was $350 bucks. The thing is, I know these services can be expensive, and I know there are people who need help but maybe can’t afford a full assessment or copyedit or developmental. I still want to help you. I want you to get there.

This service is a Reader Assessment, but only for your first fifty pages. I’ll tell you everything I think about your characters, world building, plot, pacing, voice, marketability, strengths, and weaknesses. I’ll note any grammar rules you should watch out for, and pay particularly close attention to your first chapter and first 250 words.

So why hire me as your editor?

Because after millions of words and multiple novels, I’ve written it all wrong, and then had to learn how to fix it.

Really, though, I’m agented, I'm published, I studied English at Texas State University, I’ve got an eye for detail, and a mind for big picture problems. I’ve worked with authors of all different genres and experience levels, and I’ve never walked away from an editing client or a manuscript saying, “I have no idea how to fix it, you’re on your own.”

Furthermore, with my previous life as a customer service professional, and as the creator of the #PositivityPass I always take care that my feedback contains a balance of strength and opportunities that I hope leaves you excited for the revisions to come, instead of overwhelmed.

After all, edits are tough. But as a necessary evil, it doesn’t mean they can’t be fun, and worthwhile, too.

I look forward to working with you!
